Apple to Address Mac Defender Malware With Software Update

SZTK7FMVJ7C5 - Apple has finally acknowledged the recent rise of the fake antivirus system for Mac OS X and has promised to supply a software program update to remove the malware.

A couple of weeks ago, a piece of malware known as MacDefender began spreading to Mac OS X consumers. The software, also identified as MacProtector and MacSecurity, warns a victim that his or her pc is infected and goes by way of a complicated installation procedure for the rogue antivirus. The ultimate objective with the malware would be to retrieve a victim’s credit card information.

“In the coming days, Apple will deliver a Mac OS X software program update that may automatically find and remove Mac Defender malware and its known variants,” Apple stated on its support web page. “The update will even support safeguard customers by supplying an explicit warning if they download this malware.”

Apple also posted instructions on how to avoid setting up the Mac Defender malware too as how you can eliminate it from an affected personal computer.

Calls to AppleCare about the malware appear to become higher. ZDNet estimates that anywhere in between 60,000 and 120,000 Mac OS X users could have already been impacted through the Mac Defender attack.
